How to sew Jily's all-in-one facing

list In Tutorials On

This tutorial is made for the Jily crop top sewing pattern. I think an all-in-one facing is a superb way of finishing a sleeveless top. I encourage beginners to give it a try since it's a way to avoid any visible stitches along the neckline, giving you a professional finish even if your stitching isn't quite as straight as it should be! It’s not particularly hard, just hard to explain, This is why I'm adding this step-by-step photographic guide. This guide picks up where you have already attached the front facing to the front bodice and back facing to back bodice.

Step 1

- Turn the front bust wrong side out. Insert the back bust inside the front bust. Right sides of the facings together and right sides of the garment together.

Step 2

- Pin shoulders together, front facing to back facing, front bodice to back bodice.

Step 3

- Stitch both shoulder seams. Press seams open.

Step 4

- Pull out more of the shoulder, so that all the unstitched edges are visible. Pin the open edges, making sure that the inside layer does not get caught.

Step 5

- Sew the rest of the seams that you had earlier left open. Be careful not to catch any of bulk from the part of the strap that is not pulled through and to keep the shoulder seam allowances opened.

Step 6

- Turn your garment right side out, check to see if everything is ok.

Step 7

- Press facing back in place on the wrong side of the garment.

Voilà!
